About us

Based in Edinburgh, Balerno Theatre Company (formerly known as Balerno Community Songsters) established in 1999.  We are a community-based amateur theatre company drawing cast, crew and audiences from across Edinburgh and beyond.  We perform an annual production at the Church Hill Theatre, Morningside, Edinburgh. Our emphasis is on fun and professionalism and we pride ourselves on creating inclusive, family feel in how we rehearse, prepare for and perform our shows  .  

Our shows 

Over the years, we have staged a wide variety of performances from large scale classic musicals such as Annie, Hello Dolly!, Oklahoma and The King and I, to more modern productions, including Hairspray, The Musical performed in 2019.  We also write and perform our own pantomimes and have on occasion performed straight plays too.  The majority of our productions involve large casts of up to 70 performers ranging from age 7+ involved in any one show.

We tend to announce our show early in the year, audition in the spring and perform late November/early December.

Our company is run by a committee of volunteers who work hard to ensure our members and audiences have the best experience that amateur theatre can offer.  We hire professional creative teams and invest in as much professional resource as our funds allow but we also heavily rely on the hard work and dedication of local volunteers as well as sponsorship and support from our community.

We rehearse at Currie Community High School every Tuesday & Thursday

Theatre is for everyone. Whether you've enjoyed one of our performances or are new to the theatre and have never seen one of our shows,  just imagine how much fun it would be to take part. You might want to help make costumes, run about backstage, make props, build our set...or perhaps you would like the lead role, we are always looking for new recruits.
